Passport Services
- Passport renewal in France: Book an appointment at fr.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/passports/
- Complete Form DS-82 (if current passport is less than 15 years old and was issued when you were 16+) OR DS-11 (for first-time, minor, or older passport)
- Passport photos: Must meet US passport photo requirements (white background, 2×2 inches / 5×5cm). Not the same as French photos.
- Fees: $130 (adults renewal), $100 (minor). Additional execution fee of $35 if applying in person. Pay in EUR equivalent at the Embassy.
- Processing time: 8–12 weeks routine, 5–7 weeks expedited (additional $60 fee). Emergency same-day passports available for documented emergencies.

Other Embassy Services for Americans
Notarial Services
The Embassy can notarize US documents (affidavits, powers of attorney, acknowledgments, etc.). Appointment required. Fee: $50 per notarial act. This service is separate from French notaire services.
Birth & Death Registration
Register a birth abroad (Consular Report of Birth Abroad — CRBA), report a death abroad. Appointments required. The CRBA provides US citizenship documentation for children born in France to US citizen parents.
Voter Registration & Absentee Voting
The Embassy can help with federal voter registration. Use the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) online or the Embassy. Voting by absentee ballot is your right as a US citizen abroad. Full voting guide →
STEP — Smart Traveler Enrollment
Register your residence in France at step.state.gov. Free service that allows the Embassy to contact you in emergencies and crises. Strongly recommended for all Americans in France.
